At Kulturkraft25, we highlight the unique ability of culture to drive social change through strong communities. Drawing inspiration from the world of sport, we’re excited to welcome Jamie Edwards, Head of Community at Wrexham A.F.C., as one of this year’s keynote speakers.
Wrexham has become a global phenomenon thanks to the hit series Welcome to Wrexham. With Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as ambassadors and owners, the club has revitalised the local community in profound and meaningful ways. But behind the global spotlight lies a deliberate and structured community strategy focused on relationships, purpose, partnerships and very tangible impact.
Jamie Edwards leads the Wrexham A.F.C. Foundation which works across strategic themes that translate into many active initiatives – from girls’ and disability football to targeted school programmes for vulnerable youth, community meals, and international exchanges.
In just a few months the foundation has reached thousands of unique participants, delivered thousands of hours of programming, and created more than a hundred tailored support plans with young people in their extended community. Impact is actively measured: Participants reported improved wellbeing, and developed new skills through their involvement. The work is guided by a structured impact framework focused on outcomes, engagement, and partnerships.
Grounded in local needs and driven by collaborations with schools, local authorities, funders, and volunteers, Wrexham demonstrates how a football club can serve as an engine for cohesion, learning, and pathways to employability. At Kulturkraft25, Jamie Edwards will share how sport and culture can combine as infrastructure for social transformation – and how community building can be both measurable and meaningful.
